The Wind Eagle:

Gluscabi:
Ki yo wah ji neh
yo hey, ho ho, hey

Ki yo wah ji neh
Ki yo wah ji neh

This is the song I sing
as I row across the bay
ki yo wah ji neh
but today's a different day

no matter how hard I try
the breeze blows me away
four times I go
four times I row
and the wind takes me back to shore
and so I sing out louder

Ki yo wah ji neh
yo hey, ho ho, hey
Ki yo wah ji neh
Ki yo wah ji neh

Grandmother, how does the wind blow? I can't cross the bay

Grandmother:
This sounds like trouble
but since you're stubborn,
I'll tell you anyway

Far away on the tallest mountain
a great bird stands proud and tall
when he flaps his great wings
he makes the wind blow

Gluscabi:
How do I find him?

Grandmother:
Stubborn boy, if you're looking for trouble, if you must know,
just walk facing the wind

Gluscabi:
I'll walk facing the wind
And so I walk across the fields, through the woods
and the wind keeps blowing hard and so I climb
the highest mountain. There are no trees, cuz the wind is far too strong

the wind takes off my shoes
rips off my clothes
tears out my hair
but I keep climbing
I lift myself to the top
and there he is
the wind eagle

wind eagle,
please hear me
I need to speak with you
W.E.:
I'm here son talk to me
tell me what you've got to say

Gluscabi:
You do a good job of making the wind blow
but could you do it somewhere else?

W.E.:
how do you expect me to get somewhere else?
Are you gonna carry me?

Gluscabi:
Yes I will!

W.E.
So he carries me right down
carries me right down
carries me right down the mountain
then he

W.E.: throws me in a dark Gluscabi: throw him in a dark
throws me in a dark throw him in a dark
throws me in a dark crevasse! throw him in a dark crevasse!

Gluscabi:
Now that the wind is gone
I can sing my song
ki yo wah ji neh
as I row across the bay
but the air is really hot
it's getting hard to breathe

now the water's getting dirty
doesn't smell too good
I don't wanna sing my song
everything seems so wrong
I think i'll go speak to grandmother

Grandmother:
Oh, my son, I see you're in trouble
Now I guess you need me
You must free
the great wind eagle
from the place you left him in

for the wind brings the clouds
which gives us the rain
the wind moves the waters and keeps them fresh and sweet

without wind life would not be good for us
not for us or our children
you must bring back the wind
you must bring back the wind

Gluscabi:
Wind eagle
please hear me
I hope that you're okay

W.E.:
I'm here, son, I'm okay
tell me why i'm in this hole

Gluscabi:
I put you there
cuz I thought I needed to
the wind wouldn't let me cross the bay

W.E.:
Well you're a fool son, allow me to explain
something you need to understand

sometimes we need the wind
and others we need it still
and others we need it still

Gluscabi:
Now that i've fixed my wrongs
I can go about singing my song
ki yo wah ji neh
now I row across the bay

ki yo wah ji neh
yo hey ho hey
