The Sound of the Wind: Father, father, father, I met a girl, I want to talk to her I lack the spirit besides she's too proud, she's too proud i'll go into the forest and i'll come back with something no one's seen before there's the rustling of the leaves, sounds of owls, creaking of the trees, creaking of the trees listen to the sound of the wind passing over the hollow listen to that sound hear it sing listen to the sound of the wind whispers in a dream of a red-headed bird saying follow me, follow me i'll show you something you haven't seen before watch him fly to the cedar tree carving holes in hollow limbs, drumming da-da-da-da da-da-da-da da-da-da-da da-da-da-da listen to the sound of the wind passing over the hollow listen to that sound hear it sing listen to the sound of the wind now i know what to do i'll carve a flute and play it for a beautiful girl i will learn the tunes the tunes of the world listen to the sound of the wind passing over the hollow listen to that sound hear it sing listen to the sound of the wind

The Wind Eagle: Gluscabi: Ki yo wah ji neh yo hey, ho ho, hey Ki yo wah ji neh Ki yo wah ji neh This is the song I sing as I row across the bay ki yo wah ji neh but today's a different day no matter how hard I try the breeze blows me away four times I go four times I row and the wind takes me back to shore and so I sing out louder Ki yo wah ji neh yo hey, ho ho, hey Ki yo wah ji neh Ki yo wah ji neh Grandmother, how does the wind blow? I can't cross the bay Grandmother: This sounds like trouble but since you're stubborn, I'll tell you anyway Far away on the tallest mountain a great bird stands proud and tall when he flaps his great wings he makes the wind blow Gluscabi: How do I find him? Grandmother: Stubborn boy, if you're looking for trouble, if you must know, just walk facing the wind Gluscabi: I'll walk facing the wind And so I walk across the fields, through the woods and the wind keeps blowing hard and so I climb the highest mountain. There are no trees, cuz the wind is far too strong the wind takes off my shoes rips off my clothes tears out my hair but I keep climbing I lift myself to the top and there he is the wind eagle wind eagle, please hear me I need to speak with you W.E.: I'm here son talk to me tell me what you've got to say Gluscabi: You do a good job of making the wind blow but could you do it somewhere else? W.E.: how do you expect me to get somewhere else? Are you gonna carry me? Gluscabi: Yes I will! W.E. So he carries me right down carries me right down carries me right down the mountain then he W.E.: throws me in a dark Gluscabi: throw him in a dark throws me in a dark throw him in a dark throws me in a dark crevasse! throw him in a dark crevasse! Gluscabi: Now that the wind is gone I can sing my song ki yo wah ji neh as I row across the bay but the air is really hot it's getting hard to breathe now the water's getting dirty doesn't smell too good I don't wanna sing my song everything seems so wrong I think i'll go speak to grandmother Grandmother: Oh, my son, I see you're in trouble Now I guess you need me You must free the great wind eagle from the place you left him in for the wind brings the clouds which gives us the rain the wind moves the waters and keeps them fresh and sweet without wind life would not be good for us not for us or our children you must bring back the wind you must bring back the wind Gluscabi: Wind eagle please hear me I hope that you're okay W.E.: I'm here, son, I'm okay tell me why i'm in this hole Gluscabi: I put you there cuz I thought I needed to the wind wouldn't let me cross the bay W.E.: Well you're a fool son, allow me to explain something you need to understand sometimes we need the wind and others we need it still and others we need it still Gluscabi: Now that i've fixed my wrongs I can go about singing my song ki yo wah ji neh now I row across the bay ki yo wah ji neh yo hey ho hey

Spirit's Jealousy it was a cool autumn night when I saw your face reflecting the firelight your cheeks shone with rosy hue from that moment all I could think of was you the night your father gave you to me was the best night of my life it was the first night with my wife you are all that fills me with light then one day a pretty spirit came to me she had eyes for me but I couldn't see I couldn't see for my love was the only one for me the spirit flew into a jealous rage whirling into a pillar of flame she struck me down right to my knees transforming me into a twisted tree and my love, you was begging on her knees, “if you will not make him a man, make me a tree make me a tree make me a tree make me a tree” You cried until the spirits agreed to turn you into a flower beside me a bright red flower for all to see now we're together forever

Sky Blanket 07:15
Sky Blanket: Sometime Long ago, we were very old It was just she and I, living under the blanket in the sky everyone believed when you died you would pass to the other side It's my time it's my time it's my time to go to the other side it's time for me to go home Now I'm gone and she still looks for me wish I could tell her to stop looking She persists she climbs up to the highest trees cutting the cloth in the sky day after day for the rest of her life she climbs tree after tree cutting holes with her knife It's not your time, dear It's not your time It's not your time, love then one day she came to the other side we came together one more time I know she missed me she worked so hard every day no one should live that way we must raise the blanket high high above trees high above the mountains far, far far into the sky It's our time It's our time It's our time on the other side it's our time on the other side now take a look up high when the sun doesn't shine see the moon at night surrounded by starshine you'll see the place where she cut the holes in the blanket in the sky in the blanket in the sky see the blanket in the sky

Who Calls: Qui'Appelle? Who Calls? Qui'Appelle? Who Calls? Across the river i row to my love a clear night sky a voice calls my name Qui'Appelle? Who Calls? Qui'Appelle? Who Calls? Rowing on, then From everywhere and nowhere the voice calls again Qui'Appelle? Who Calls? Qui'Appelle? Who Calls? Wind swirls round my face the touch and smell of my love i breathe in the perfumed air and the wind dies her father's face told me everything my love was gone Qui'Appelle? Who called? Qui'Appelle? Rainbow Crow 07:13
Rainbow Crow: All the world was draped in snow all the world was cold ice now blanketed the waters snow drifts covered the land the snow is increasing the snow is increasing the animals dying freezing starving if we don't do something we don't do something all of us will die we must send a messenger to the spirits in the sky who create all that we can see we will ask them to get rid of all the cold, white snow and make the world warm oh who will we send now for we must send someone to speak to the spirits for us we will send rain-bow crow send rain-bow crow the most beautiful bird with all his shimmering feathers he will catch the ear of the spirits well his song is the loveliest of all he must get rid of snow from on high or we'll all die in wint'ry hell and so he soared up through the sky passing trees and clouds and the sun and moon leaving the stars behind he reaches the holy place and now he sings his song he sings it loud he sings it strong the spirits love his melody they offer him whatever he needs and so they they gave him fire so he could melt the snow they touched a branch to the sun and he held it in his mouth and started the long journey home he flew right through the stars and his torch it was so large as he passed the sun's rays his tail lit up ablaze now his shim-mer-ing feathers were black from all the smoke his voice was also gone from the soot he choked he delivered the fire to the animals he melted the snow and all felt warm it was a time for rejoicing for fire came to earth but rainbow crow mourned his coat and song the spirits told him to look inside for each feather holds its own rainbow all would remember his sacrifice for he alone melted the snow his rough voice would keep him from a cage his smoky flesh keeps him safe all the world will see all these things will keep you free

about

Great Stone Stories is a collection of Native American folktales set to Thor's unique brand of progressive pop/rock music. However, it's more than that.
